Soapbox..........

.............let me just start this day by posting "on my soapbox". Have any of you guys noticed that NOTHING is built to last???? AKA, we have a front end loader washing machine purchased July 22, 2006............granted it was not the most expensive, BUT it certainly cost more than what I really wanted to spend!!! This weekend we noticed it was leaking at the FRONT of the machine, not from the hookups or the drainline..................and Tony mentioned that it was making noise when we ran it and he clearly remembered how quiet it was when we first bought it........

So we contacted Sears to make a repair call, thinking we would pay the $69 repair service charge and whatever it took to repair it..........then we would be on our merry way to washing clothes again. OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The repair guy shows up yesterday evening only to tell us that the tub on the inside has come loose and done MAJOR damage to the inside thus why it is leaking. We did not purchase the extended warranty and of course, the manufacturers warranty is only for 1 year!!!!!! Before quoting the parts, he forewarned us that we wouldn't be happy and could probably buy a new one cheaper...........................that was an understatement!!

After he contacted the parts center and gave them the list of items he would need, the printout of costs they sent him...................get ready, you're going to love this...................the parts and labor would total $1701!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We can buy the same washing machine for $749!!!!! Don't you just love "disposable" appliances!

Let me just tell you I am with you 100% on this..when we moved into this house, we splurged and got the (expensive!) matching washer/dryer pair...the latest Whirlpool model, frontloader, energy efficient with all the bells and whistles etc. I was SO unhappy with it from day one...the washer would develop a moldy smell after every wash and would never get our clothes clean....I guess that's hard to do when it only uses 3 gallons of water per load! Be assured: I called the store where we bought these things...we had 2 weeks after we purchased them to make a return...and I pitched on BIG hissy fit until they swapped for something I could live with....not a frontloader, but my clothes are CLEAN now. And I have heard of countless people who have found that their frontloaders need major repairs AFTER the warranty has expired. AND our 17 month old dishwasher (supposedly top of the line!!??) needed a $300 control panel last week...are you kidding me?? I was so mad! Irnonically, we have a 30+ year old avocado green Frigidaire in our garage that the previous owners left when they moved and it runs like a champ! They don't make 'em like they used to!!!

You know I'm feeling you on this one!

Tell me why you make a machine that costs more to fix than it does to create????????????????

I tell you what's clogging the landfills...appliances!

Good grief! I feel your pain. We bought a new front loader for less than the price it would have cost to repair our old one just last year... I know, I know. Sorry!
